Devloping airborne wind energy systems that can provide sustainable energy at utility scale reaching out to higher altitudes and deeper waters

Work packages

About Ampyx Power

At higher altitudes there is sufficient wind to power the world’s growing renewable energy demand. Ampyx Power is developing utility scale Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWES) with tethered wings that convert stronger winds above 200 meters into electricity. With our compact systems we avoid the use of heavy towers and foundations, making it a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for the production of wind energy.  We focus on certifiable, scalable architecture.

Role in NEON

Investigate suitable park architectures and performance of utility-scale AWES to participate in the Dutch energy mix, including on-shore and offshore, possible roll-out scenarios, scalability, park level performance and environmental impact.

Motivation for joining NEON

Ampyx Power aims to make an impact on the energy mix by targeting utility-scale AWES systems. Investigation of scalability and grid integration opportunities helps to validate and improve our long-term development planning and prioritization and will benefit our cooperation and standardization efforts with the AWE community.
